“…Rhinehart’s rich yet tender vocals take the EP’s stellar songwriting to new heights – and only further help to create the unique, welcoming sound that State Park Ranger has made for themselves…”
"...his voice feels passionate on theses song, pained and introspective. It is perfect for the alt folk genre. He is not a crooner, no, but his vocal presentation feels real and down to earth..."
"...It sounds almost as though we’re hearing the song being written as it goes, guided by an intuitive process and deep listening between the artists. It’s an impressionistic compositional style that subverts most current trends of songwriting in the realm of folk or indie alternative..."
Louden Campbell and Nicolas Rhinehart started the project in late 2018. Their ambitions were to start a new form of folk with influences from Justin Vernon, Twain, Shakey Graves, Feist and a couple others. Only a few months after their meeting, the project released its first single “Marlboro Man”. The joy that came from the release started a wildfire in their desire to do more.
After 6 months of work, and the addition of a few more members, their EP "Sly Devil" was released on Sept. 1 2019. It includes rich, soothing, deep folk (The Will), high energy, boot tapping, layered blues (Stirring) and everything in-between. Following the release, reviews were left that can be seen below.
Now, they’ve added on two new members in a desire to go for a new, big, ambitious sound. The band now includes Nicolas Rhinehart (vocals and guitar), Louden Campbell (guitar), Eric Severance (bass), and Matty Garau (percussionist). The album is aimed to release at the end of 2020 and will be their debut piece.
